| CRDF, MRDA and ASM Fund New Generation of Moldovan ScientistsJanuary 9, 2008
The U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation (CRDF), the Moldovan Research and Development Association (MRDA) and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova are pleased to announce the results of the Moldovan Young Scientists Support Program (MYSSP) competition. The program will be jointly funded and administered, and will award a total of $60,000 in grants to eight of Moldova’s most exceptional young scientists.   The MYSSP program will enable outstanding young Moldovan investigators to perform high-quality research in their field of basic or applied science. The grant program will also give them the opportunity to become more integrated in the international scientific community by participating in international conferences, workshops, and meetings.
Winners were selected through a merit-based competitive process. Expert written reviews by both American and Moldovan scientists, coupled with the results of panels in both countries in order to make funding decisions. Among applications of equal technical merit, priority was given to research with a high likelihood of the research resulting in publication, female applicants, and research that could have an impact in Moldova.
Grants have been awarded for the following investigators:

Identification of Optimum Allele Pattern Associated with Predisposition to Stroke among Moldavian Population
Primary Investigator – Elena Mocan, Institute of Genetics and Plant Physiology, ASM. Diversity of Pathogenic Bacteria and its Potential Role for Biological Control of Fruit Trees Pest Beetles Sciaphobus Squalidus(Gyll.) and Tatianaerhynchites Aequatus(L.)
Primary Investigator – Natalia Munteanu,Institute of Zoology, ASM.  Optimization of the Thermal Conductivity for Nanoelectrinic Devices
